This morning I got Tim Atkin’s (@timatkinmw) weekly email. I always eagerly read his email intros. Maybe one day my ramblings will become more polished, but this morning’s intro got me big time! Here is a snippet for your reading pleasure. Thank you, Tim!
“Graceful, ethereal wines are easy to miss sometimes. Modern life urges us to expect instant gratification, to equate ‘elegance with real estate’ as the wonderful Prefab Sprout song once put it. But appreciating elegance requires a degree of effort and understanding on our part. We need to listen for the whisper.”
Speaking of whispers, Audeant (@audeantwines) has been spreading whispers since 2016. It wasn’t until January 25th, 2020, when I first heard their whisper. I was blown away by their 2017 Luminous Hills Pinot Noir. In my 2020 Oregon Wine Report, here is a snippet of what I wrote about Audeant:
“Andrew’s Rose is out of this world along with the Luminous Hills and Nysa Pinots. Audeant recently released their first vintage of Chardonnay and is on par with all of their other labels. You always hear people talk about getting in on the ground floor of something. Audeant is a winery you want to get in on the ground floor now! Tastings with Andrew are out of this world, and I will be shocked if this is even a possibility in a couple of years. Grab the opportunity now!”
If you haven’t heard, Audeant was recognized as the top Oregon Wine from Decanter with a score of 97 for their 2017 Luminous Hills Pinot Noir. I am not much for score chasing, but it does my heart good to see good people get recognized for the hard work they do.
Congratulations to Audeant, and to celebrate, I had to open the 2021 Luminous Hills Pinot Noir. I could try and describe this wine and what I get, but really, all you need to know is I wish I could drink this wine every single day. If Audeant isn’t on your radar after me telling you about it for four and a half years, it is time to listen to their whispers!
