Tasting Notes
Can I buy a clue Alex for $500? What happened to the sun? I was in full Spring mode earlier in the week, and now we have cloudy skies with rain. At least there is a ton of pollen on the ground, giving me confidence that Spring is definitely here!
I decided to open the 2022 Vieilles Vignes Pinot Noir from Walnut Ridge Vineyard (@walnutridgevineyard) tonight. I came across this gemstone last summer and couldn't be happier. Aaron and Alisha are absolutely incredible people. I ran into them at the McMinnville Wine and Food event and then again the following week at Approachment's Launch Party. Their winemaker, Andrew Smith, came from Antiquum, and Holy Toldeo Batman, he makes some off-the-charts wine.
As you pour this wine into your glass, you'll notice a beautiful, medium-dark red hue. The aroma, initially subtle, gradually reveals itself, inviting you to take your first sip.
At first sip, you might be taken aback, but in a good way. The subtle, sultry entrance gradually unfolds into an explosive mid-palate, showcasing the true power and vigor of these old vines planted in 1996. It's as if they're delivering a knockout punch, reminiscent of the famous Mike Tyson quote, 'Everyone has a plan until they get hit.'
The one-two jab in the mid-palate introduces an array of deep, dark fruits, a treasure trove of flavors. The finish leaves you with a lasting impression that's both intense and intriguing. It's an experience that makes you hope you never run into Mike Tyson in a dark alley, just like you wish to remember the remarkable taste of this wine.
