Tasting Notes
I gotta say, with all the flowers in bloom, it feels like we are officially in spring! Time to break out the pressure washer and clean off the back deck!
One of the wines Paul Johnson from Satyr Fire opened during our conversation on the podcast was the 2022 Crystal Dagger Riesling from Satyr Fire. It’s a single vineyard production from the volcanic soils of Eola-Amity Hills AVA. Paul is particularly fond of this area, noting, “I love just this crunchy saline, these bright citrus qualities that show off in the Chardonnays as well as other varieties. But Riesling, yeah, I’m really diving into Riesling from Eola-Amity.”
I always adore diving into Riesling, and I don't understand why Oregon Riesling doesn't get much attention. When I took the first sip of this wine, I was blown away by its complexity. There were so many fruits perplexing my senses, and I was taken aback while enjoying the high acidity. Maybe at some point in the future, we will start to appreciate Oregon Riesling more, and at that point, this wine will be knocking the socks off so many people!
