Tasting Notes
I might be sitting on the back deck a little cold getting this week's podcast and newsletter ready, but it is worth the torture. Rain is coming, and I must soak up as much outside time as possible!
Tonight’s wine is the 2021 Hazelfern Prime Cut Pinot Noir. I don’t break out many Hazelfern bottles because they are some special bottles I am holding back, but I ordered a few extra to splurge!
A beautiful red velvet of color is just waiting to be consumed in the glass. On the nose, the velvet translates into those darker fruits that make my knees weaker than doing a 2 minute all-out on the treadmill at Orange Theory. On entry, the tip of your palate rejoices with delight, with a perfect balance of bright and dark fruit comingling in harmony on the mid-palate. On the finish, it is ever present, full of acidity, the slightest hint of spice, and remnants of the fruit lingering, just waiting to be joined by another sip.
I didn’t know this until after opening the bottle, but the fruit is sourced from four vineyards (Three Cedars Vineyard, Arlyn, Stormy Morning, and Flanerie). I was thrilled to see Arlyn on the list!
