Tasting Notes
When I think about stories, I get sucked in when there is a tremendous amount of depth to the story. The story behind the label for Aubaine is quite spectacular, all starting with one heck of a humble guy whose name is Andy Lytle (@amlytes).
There were several occasions of serendipity for Andy, but everything started with one certain plane ride which led to a couple of wine labels: Lytle Barnett(@lytlebarnett) and Aubaine (@aubainewine). You might have heard of a series on SOMM TV called Sparklers. The first portion of the show was filmed on a property called AtTheJoy, which is surrounded by the Anahata vineyard—that’s where these grapes came from. There is so much more, and all of it is heartwarming!
For this wine, it is the 2021 Aubaine Joie Pinot Noir. The winemaker is Isabelle Meunier, and if you haven’t heard of her, please do some research! She is spectacular! Anyway, about the wine: on the nose, smooth pleasantries entice you like a siren to indulge in a few sips. The entry engages you to approach a mid-palate where a red carpet of velvet awaits you. Standing there on the red carpet, you don’t notice all of the flashbulbs going off because of the endless waves of magic transpiring on your mid-palate. Soft tones of dark red fruit, but nowhere near bright red fruit either. The tannins intermingle into the red carpet of fruit, where you are met with a never-ending finish. I had a difficult time finishing these last sentences. I wanted to just sit here and savor.
