Tasting Notes
I don’t know about your IG feed, but I have seen so many pictures of bud break happening over the weekend I had to dig deep in the cellar to find something special to celebrate.
Tonight’s wine is the 2021 Antiquum Farm Passiflora Pinot Noir.
I remember tasting this wine in November at the farm. It was my favorite of the four Pinots tasted for the Thanksgiving weekend open house. When I opened this bottle yesterday, my palate felt off. Nothing was hitting the spot, and yesterday it came across as too tannicky for me. Today, my palate is back in place, and Holy Toledo Batman feels so good to be reunited. Looking at the wine in the glass, it comes across with a super dark redness. You would think the darkness would translate to darker red fruit on the nose, and yes, there is some dark red fruit, but there is also a youthful, exuberant crispness I am enjoying. On entry, the dark red fruit immediately greets you with a perception of something similar to a 2018, but reality sets in as your mid-palate starts to take charge. A 2018 is more prominent and bolder. This wine gently glides onto your mid-palate with soothing dark fruit that doesn’t overpower your senses. For the finish, this gentle wave of spice slowly drifts out to sea, leaving your mouth water. Who knows how long this wine will age, but I am so glad I made it problematic to get these bottles!
