So many stories to be told!
A majority of the time, we are told stories about the winemaker, the winery, the founders, but there are times when the vineyard itself needs to fill the room with its own story. The Freedom Hill vineyard is located in Monmouth, Oregon, just off the foothills of the coast range. Currently, the vineyard takes up 140 acres with 92 under vine, and the first vines were planted in 1982. Dan and Helen Dusschee had their first vintage in 1985, consisting of 6.5 tons. Then, in 1986, the couple gave Ken Wright a bottle from the 85 vintage, and so many doors began to open.
I have very little Walter Scott Pinot. I had zero willpower when I opened this up and enjoyed it over three days. The acidity was on par from day one to day three. The tannins were slight and integrated with a hint of an uplifting spice finish. Mid-palate was filled with lingering dark fruit. So good on so many levels!
