Tasting Notes
For me, visiting wineries outside of Oregon can bring about a little internal conflict. This past summer I visited a a few wineries in Woodinville and I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of wineries on top of one another. It felt polar opposite of what I am used to, but I learned quite a bit while tasting some good wines. I suggest taking a weekend trip and checking it out for yourself. One of the bottles I brought back was the 2017 Conflict from J Bookwalter. I enjoyed it during the tasting and was pleased it still held up for me after revisiting a couple months later.
The 2017 Conflict is a red blend of 50% Merlot, 47% Cab and 3% Syrah. On the nose I immediately got cranberry continuing with a fruit forward expression. The Cab Merlot blend is nice smooth pleasant experience mid palate. The tannins are still pretty tight and will be interesting to see how they tame in years to come. There is a nice long menthol finish to round out the experience.
