Tasting Notes

When I hear the word chapters I immediately think of chapters in a book. Each one builds the story until there is an ending, but sometimes the author finds a way to write another book with new chapters that carry the story forward. I will never forget when Nick at the Carlton Winemaker’s Studio first told me about Pray Tell Wines. I signed up for the newsletter that same day, bought Tom’s wine, interviewed him for the podcast, and have loved watching new chapters of his life unfold. A couple of years ago Tom made a bold move and took his winery back to his hometown in Philly. Today he is making wine there and carving out a place for himself in the urban wine scene. It is inspiring to see someone take such a big risk and have it pay off. Tonight’s bottle is the 2019 Willamette Valley Chardonnay from Pray Tell Wines. I love how this wine plays right on the mid palate. There is a strong backbone of acidity that never overpowers, a weight that is both full and light, a smooth entry, and a playful finish with just a touch of spice. Even six years in, the wine feels vibrant and alive. The 2019 vintage was an incredible year in Oregon, and this bottle is a beautiful reminder of that. I am thrilled to see Tom thriving in Philly, writing new chapters of his life while his wines continue to tell the story of Oregon. That is one of the magical things about wine. You get to travel back in time with a bottle and relive a chapter all over again. I love hearing stories. Share with me a story of a time you took a risk and stepped outside your comfort zone. # oregonvinocountry 🍷
