Tasting Notes
Another week has almost flown by, along with yet another month. Before you know it, Santa will be climbing down the chimney only after I soak up every bit of sun over the summer. It’s excellent seeing tulip buds break ground along with hail, rain, and sun, all in a matter of three minutes. All the classic signs of Oregon Spring are here, making me smile from ear to ear!
Tonight’s wine is the 2019 Dossier Walla Walla Valley Syrah.
Looking at the glass, there are all the classic characteristics of deep dark red colors followed by a bigger, bolder wine waiting for you. With the glass sitting next to the computer, as you type away, wafts of something different on the nose start to bring you closer to inspect. On entry, an unexpected smoothness glides onto the mid-palate, where you dive deeper into something different uncovered earlier on the nose. Pulling back the covers, a pleasant funkiness not generally encountered for a Syrah encapsulates your mid-palate. The perfectly integrated tannins allow the funk to travel for an extended period on the finish.
