Tasting Notes
Do you remember Black Friday and Cyber Monday? I kind of remember. I normally don’t participate in the mania, but there was a deal from Domaine Divio I couldn’t pass up. The Black Friday offer was for their 2018 Willamette Valley for a smokin' deal I was unable to pass up. The following week, Sara contacted me to inform me they sold out of the 2018 and wanted to see if I was ok with 2019. Feeling the teeniest bit disappointed, I said, of course, while telling Sara I was thrilled they sold out of 2018. Sara also informed me I should wait 6 months to open a bottle giving it time to settle and age a bit.
When I am told something about wine, I follow it to a T.
The last week of December, I did a tasting at Divio and tried the 2019 Willamette Valley. I was blown the freak away. There was a funky characteristic to this wine I am not used to observing from Bruno. I like it!
Tonight, I had to break the rules and open the 2019 to observe for myself outside of the exquisite winery hypnosis. The funk, oh, the wonderful funk, is there outside of the winery. I was not mesmerized by the sun glimmering through the vineyard on that cold December. I was probably mesmerized, but I wasn’t hallucinating how great this wine was. Yes, it is a 2019, and it's still young, especially when I try my best not to open 2018. This bottle is setting the foundation and the bar for every 2019 I try from this point forward.
