Tasting Notes
Day 11 of Oregon Sparkling!
Visiting Flanauer is always a pleasant experience! Last year towards the end of August, I attended a wonderful dinner at the tasting room. It was lovely, and the rain towards the end of the night made it even more unforgettable.
🥂 Fact
Pinot Meunier isn’t mentioned too much for Sparkling, but it accounts for about 32% of plantings in Champagne. Bud break for Pinot Meunier occurs later than Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, making it less prone to frost. As I mentioned yesterday, Pinot Noir brings in red fruit, strength, body, and Chardonnay brings finesse, floral notes, and mineralogy. Pinot Meunier brings a mixture of sweet, savory, and spicy tones.
🥂 Winery
Flaneur opened a new tasting inside a refurbished grain elevator in download Carlton a couple of years back. The tasting room radiates amazement. Be sure to find the staircase leading to the second floor. Kellie and Tyson make sure your experience exceeds any expectations while Grant knocks the wine out of the ballpark. Within walking distance, there are several places to check out for lunch or dinner.
🥂 Wine
2017 Extra Brut
43% Pinot Meunière, 31% Chardonnay, and 26% Pinot Noir
