Tasting Notes
Tonight's wine is preparing for the podcast interview with winemaker Hans Van Dale coming to the newsletter on Saturday morning. I have always been a fan of the Fennwood vineyard. Alexana used to source from here, but now I am only aware of Dusky Goose and Celestial Hill.
The 2017 Dusky Goose Fennwood Vineyard Pinot Noir displays a dark red opulence in the glass begging for attention with an aromatic nose similar to a song from a seductive siren song. Taking that first sip takes you into a land of pleasure where the mid-palate is met with pleasant dark red fruit swashing through and through. This wine needs you to savor every sip by moving the wine from side to side on the mid-palate. You get a journey of dark red fruits intertwined with spice and zero tannins. Those spices are highlighted at first for the finish and slowly dwindle into an ever-pleasant spice. This is not a Happy Hour wine where it is drunk sip after sip without giving it the attention it respects.
