Tasting Notes
There are times when you open a bottle, take the first sip, and are blown away by how good it is. Luckily, when I opened this bottle the other night, nobody was in the house when I said, “Wow” out loud in a bit of a disturbing manner. I mean, the dogs looked at me weirdly, but once they noticed treats weren’t happening, they went back to tormenting one another.
What makes a wine makes me say, “Wow!” It all started with the wine pouring into the glass. When there is a deep dark red color radiating from the bottle, I get goosebumps all over, and the nose is already pulling me in closer and closer. The first sip hit the tip of my tongue. It felt like the wine was literally dancing up and down for a cannonball of pleasure mid-palate. But, it doesn’t stop there. The finish hung around like an extended siesta on a beautiful fall afternoon with the sun quaintly shining through the golden leaves.
The 2017 Carter Vineyard from Tendril is one of those wines where there is a massive internal conflict. On the one hand, yes, I want to drink it, but I also don't want it to go away. Oh, the struggle!!!
