Tasting Notes
To say I am a fanboy of Isabelle Meunier is an understatement. She is the winemaker for Lavinea, along with a couple of other projects. I have talked with her a few times. She is an incredibly humble, down-to-earth person. One day, I ran into her while she was having lunch. I so wanted to say hi but refrained. It was a gorgeous weekend day, and the last thing she needed was some weird fanboy saying, "Hi."
The 2016 Lavinea Nysa Pinot Noir is fantastic! The perfect contrast of bright and dark red fruit in the glass tempts me to take a sniffy sniff. On the nose, the words, "Oh my gosh," slowly escape my mouth. There are waves upon waves of the juxtaposition of those dark and bright red fruits, creating expressions of an underlying soft funk. Entry is smooth and delicate, allowing the mid-palate to grasp a full-bodied expression of absolute decadence. There is a lucious mid-palate of velvety dark fruit with a tannin structure integrated perfectly. There is a slight spice on the finish for an extended finish that you should savor and pay attention to!
