Tasting Notes
Continuing the multi-week journey of the cellar continues today. I decided to open up a 2016 Estate Reserve from L’Angolo. A day consisting of a 4-mile walk in the rain, 45-minute Peloton Metallica Ride, a 20 minute Apple Fitness Yoga, and anything else to distract me from working on my wine report, this bottle did not disappoint one bit.
My experience:
Tasting this wine, Whitney Houston's song "The Greatest Love of All" lyrics run through my head on repeat:
No matter what they take from me
They can't take away my dignity
Because the greatest love of all
Is happening to me
I found the greatest love of all
Inside of me
The greatest love of all
Is easy to achieve
Producing a wine you wish there were more bottles in the cellar is not easy to achieve. With this being a 2016, the structure is firmly in place for many years to come. I am keeping this wine dog eared for a conversation with Izzy in 2021. I want more to savor in the future.
The entry flies in under the radar and slowly creeps up onto your mid-palate, where the tannins approach you cautiously, not wanting to overwhelm but also letting you know of their presence. The dark fruit mingles with the tannins taking command in a tango for a medium finish leaving you breathless a bit until the next sip. Once the bottle is gone, you are left with a lasting impression never to be forgotten until the next tango a few years down the road.
My score using the Jancis Robinson scale: 17 Superior
