Tasting Notes
Did you see the sun this afternoon? Yes, it was in the mid-twenties when I woke up, but Holy Toledo, what a spectacular day it turned out to be!
Don’t worry. I am not all about the weather. Today, I am on Day 2 of tasting Lytle-Barnett’s 2016 Brut Rose. I am doing this because Sparkling for the masses is relatively new to Oregon, and I want to see how well Oregon holds up over time. Of course, the best way to test this theory is to taste the wine over several days. Bottom line, Lytle-Barnett, on day two, is showing spectacularly well!
Out of the bottle, bubbles upon bubbles greet you with enthusiasm waiting to paint your palette full of pleasure. On entry, the slight grippiness from yesterday has faded, giving way to a familiarity you would associate at first with a Rose of Pinot Noir. However, upon further investigation, there is more involved. The combination of bubbles and Chardonnay take over, leaving familiarity in the cold Oregon rain. It’s time to get a little uncomfortable and notice how the Chardonnay takes charge, leaving you perplexed about what is happening. However, before you can draw any conclusions, you are left with a satisfyingly long finish, still screaming to be paired with food!
